I do agree, and am now doing my best to put this into practice - hard if you are a solo-preneur.

All due respect my friend, but you have no idea what you are talking about and have no idea how to use twitter to enhance your own brand and engage long term with a targetted audience— using twitter for business via an intelligent inbound marketing methodology. Auto tweeting, IF DONE CORRECTLY, is fantastic and it's advantages far outweigh its disadvantages. I get scores of rewteets all the time.

As a social media strategist at an organization that's in the beginning stages of developing a social media policy, governance, strategy, etc... I tell my employees to schedule tweets. WITH the condition that they are available to respond when the tweet is scheduled.

Having a content plan in place for Twitter isn't bad. Good content of any form often takes planning (though there are exceptions). So if you know what you are going to say, why not schedule it? Productivity win. The CEO stays happy because assigned work is still getting done.

For my employees, I'd rather them think through what they are going to say, think strategically about when this message will be the most relevant, and plan ahead to prevent writer's block. Most of them have many other duties. Social media is something they understand is a good thing but may fail to realize how to use it, and even more so how to manage it along with their day jobs.

I think this process helps them get going.

I'd be interested to hear your take on scheduled tweets. I will take useful articles I find and schedule them to tweet later in the week so I don't overwhelm people by tweeting 20 links at once when I catch up on my RSS feeds. I'm always there to respond and I consider myself to be an active engager but are hand crafted scheduled tweets a detriment to relationship building in your opinion?
